On April 21st-24th, the first International Conference on NanoPhotonics and Photonics Integration 2024 (NPPI 2024) was held in the campus of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) at Taipei. The Laboratory of light, nanomaterials and nanotechnologies (L2n, CNRS-UTT) and the Heterogeneously-integrated Silicon Photonic Integration Center (HiSiPIC), National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) have co-organized this "International Conference on NanoPhotonics and Photonics Integration 2024 (NPPI 2024) " to promote interactions in the field of photonics and nano technologies among researchers from France, Taiwan, Japan, USA and other countries. The Conference is planned to be held annually in either Taiwan or France.

The HiSiPIC center is sponsored by the Higher Education Sprout Project-The Featured Areas Research Center Program, Ministry of Education, Taiwan. The center includes the research teams from eight universities, the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI), and more than ten industrial partners. The goal is to develop key technologies, cultivate talents, enhance international collaboration, and promote the applications in the field of heterogeneous integration, which is the technology to combine the chips with different material platform or different technology nodes by using the wafer bonding or 2.5D/3D packaging techniques. The center focuses on four technological areas: silicon photonics wafer design and layout, heterogeneous integration and chip packaging, cutting and characterization of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) and silicon carbide wafers, and photonic IC applications. The applications will focus on optical communication/optical interconnect, smart sensing, photonic quantum computing, and photonics for sustainable environment.

The conference agenda for this year featured both oral and poster presentations from France, Japan, USA, and Taiwan. These presentations encompassed a range of topics within the realm of nanophotonics and integrated photonics.  Prof. Kimio Oguchi from NTUST and Dr. Shuwen Zeng, CNRS Researcher from L2n are the co-organizing chairs for this conference. Prof. Renaud Bachelot (L2n), NANO-PHOT director, has given an opening keynote speech to introduce the NANO-PHOT program and present recent advances in hybrid plasmonic nanosources of light. Other five L2n Researchers and Professors involved in NANO-PHOT (Safi Jradi, Aurelien Bruyant, Jérôme Martin, Gilles Lérondel and Shuwen Zeng) have also been delivering their research talks on different topics of Nanophotonics as keynote or invited speakers.
